The only thing I'd disagree with in the article is the line about not repelling an alien invasion force. To those in New York, it appeared as though all of London were afloat, for the British armada was so large, the masts of their ships appeared as a forest. The 12,000 lobsterbacks were our cousins, for sure, but they and their 9,000 Hessian friends weren't coming for supper.
Since I've likely put that Byrds song in your head, it's only fair I let you exorcise it.
